The Five First Saturdays Devotion

A century-old devotion revealed by the Virgin Mary herself, the First Five Saturdays practice promises incredible graces – but only for those willing to devote themselves through prayer, sacrifice, and confession.

The First Five Saturdays devotion honors the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This devotion originated from the apparitions of Our Lady of Fátima in 1917, where she appeared to three young Portuguese children – Lúcia dos Santos and her cousins Jacinta and Francisco Marto.

During her apparitions, Mary asked the children to pray the rosary and make sacrifices for sinners. She also requested that the children offer devotion on the first Saturdays of five consecutive months in reparation for the sins against her Immaculate Heart. This practice became known as the First Five Saturdays devotion.

How to Practice the First Five Saturdays Devotion:

On the first Saturday of each month for five consecutive months, follow these steps:

  • Go to Confession – This confession can be made within eight days before or after the first Saturday.
  • Receive Holy Communion – This must be done with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
  • Pray five decades of the RosaryThe Rosary is prayed in a church or oratory if possible.
  • Keep Mary company for 15 minutes – This is done by meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary and/or offering prayers to the Immaculate Heart.
  • Make a special intention – The intention should be to offer reparation and make atonement for sins against Mary’s Immaculate Heart.

The promise associated with this devotion is that those who practice it will be given at the hour of death the graces necessary for salvation.

The First Five Saturdays devotion spreads a profound dedication and honor towards the Mother of God. It is a powerful way to gain graces through Mary’s intercession while making amends for blasphemy and indifference towards her.
