Next week, on September 23rd, the Church will celebrate the feast day of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, widely known as “Padre Pio.” Padre Pio was an Italian Capuchin friar and priest who lived in the 20th century. He is revered for his deep piety, mystical experiences, and the stigmata that marked his life.
The novena leading up to Padre Pio’s feast day will commence this Thursday, September 14th. Numerous novenas dedicated to Padre Pio exist, varying in length and complexity, but all share a common goal: seeking the intercession of this devout and influential saint, who has a profound connection with Jesus and Mary and continues his ministry in Heaven.
Below, we provide two prayers that we personally recommend for daily recitation during the nine days of the novena: (1) the Padre Pio Novena – Prayer for His Intercession and (2) the Padre Pio Novena Chaplet, often referred to as “Padre Pio’s Most Powerful Weapon.” Both of these devotions are powerful prayers. It’s entirely optional to participate in either or both of them. NOVENA TO PADRE PIO – PRAYER FOR HIS INTERCESSION

Dear God, Thou hast generously blessed Thy servant, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, with the gifts of the Spirit. Thou hast marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the saving Passion and Death of Thy Son. Endowed with the gift of discernment, St. Pio labored endlessly in the confessional for the salvation of souls. With reverence and intense devotion in the celebration of Mass, he invited countless men and women to a greater union with Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.
Through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, I confidently beseech Thee to grant me the grace of (mention your petitions now). Amen.
